Hello world! Let’s catch up!
I’m not 100% sure on where to start. The first half of 2013 has been tumultuous for everyone in the Cj’s family. We’ve moved the shop 3 times, been in 8 states and what feels like hundreds of cities and the dust is starting to settle a little bit. The website finally got launched in full-fledged form, the uniforms are official, and we’ve got our location hammered out for the next little while. Still trying to get some good traction on hitting the ground running. We’ve turned some big projects and lots of little ones, but we’re full to the brim with work. (Thank God for you guys sticking through it all to support us in the end.)
Some of you may not realize, because we haven’t really made it super official yet, but we’ve moved the shop. We had next to no notice to move out of our old place, due to some poor planning on our part, some crappy real estate deals and misunderstandings with our landlord. It all worked out to get us out in a hurry. Goodbye 6429 Southfront, hello K.A.R. Service. Scott thankfully gave us a leg up with a place to run the daily stuff until we could land another shop. Livermore really put their thumb down on automotive service zoning, so it was a hard-fought battle. We looked for about 4 empty months, and had so many brokers searching for us I thought we’d been over everything. Thankfully my brother had to guts to call on a billboard advertising a former dealership. Through some hard praying and lots of perseverance, we convinced the city planning department, the realtors and the owner that we would be a good fit. We’ve been blessed with a full workload ever since, but we now call 57 South L Street home. So if you’re in downtown Livermore, we’d love to hear from you. Stop on by. We’ll have a grand opening in August and you guys will get to see the shop when we’re all caught up and cleaned up.
In March, we had a little roadtrip to get out to Colorado to drop off a customer’s car.
The scenery was a great reminder of what’s out there. It feels like we’ve been trying to catch up since we started, and it was refreshing to see outside the 4 walls we call home. Plus, it was strong proof that we’ve got a tough truck.

Our trailer dwarfed our little Silverado, but we towed anyway.. at one point over 80 miles an hour. Then the snow. We got snowed in at Vail, Colorado and were forced into retirement. We put over 24 hours straight on the truck and ourselves, so I think it was time we took a rest anyway.
After dumping several inches on us, the Colorado sky opened up and we got on the road in the morning. Met a great guy, Steve Diamond, to whom the Renault R17 was delivered. (See you at SEMA, Steve!!) On the way home, we had an accident. God be thanked, we didn’t hit anyone and the only person that hit us was us. The trailer came around on a snowy road and jackknifed the truck. We’ll have to get both fixed, but for now the injuries remain as a reminder to keep it straight.
But the trip was neat. Got us through both the main freeways in Nevada, a little corner of Arizona, the meaty parts of Colorado, great views of Utah, and the populated sections of Wyoming. June brought us to Portland for a wedding (what a fantastic drive!!!) and we hopped the state line (a river) to Washington, just ’cause we could.
So for now, it’s home safe and back to work. More to come on window tinting, a super bad 1965 Galaxie, a pro-touring Camaro, a 1974 Corvette, and a cab swap on a big truck. A huge thank you to Clay Goetz for making all things online possible. We’ll keep the posts coming when we find some spare hours between engine conversions and all this repair work!
Wonder if that’s my old ’65 Galaxie? Used to call it my “Flintstone car”, since I practically had to stick my foot out the door and push to make it go . . . Almost threw me off of Fords – however, many years later, they got another chance. My 1998 Mustang still runs like a charm! Still need to bring it in to you guys for a tune-up – soon. Josh, you write so well. Hope you guys are doing great, Miss you.
